At a Commission event on the future of e-invoicing, Agustin Miguez, who is part of the team responsible for the 'e-invoicing & digital reporting' pillar of ViDA, provided some insights into ongoing discussions around Member states’ approval of the ViDA proposal. As part of this update, he shared his optimism for the approval of ViDA by all EU member states, at the upcoming ECOFIN meeting, which will be held on May 14th 2024.

It was confirmed that the technical deliberations concerning this area of ViDA is now closed, with discussions around the date of implementation being the final area of deliberation.  On this point it was advised that, although discussions as ongoing, the original timeframe (1st January 2028) is very likely to be delayed by at least a couple of years – meaning that this area of the proposal isn’t expected to be implemented until 2030, at the earliest.
